Upon the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to analyze HazMat Incidents involving tank cars, cargo tanks, and Intermodal tanks; predict their likely behavior; plan a response; and implement the planned response. This course is designed to meet or exceed the elements of NFPA 472, and will provide the tools necessary to obtain certification through National Board of Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) as a rail, highway and Intermodal specialist. The course is designed around classroom lectures and interactive exercises.
Mandatory equipment needed: Please bring to the class the following, a hard hat, steel toe boots, safety glasses and gloves.
Training Location: This course can only be taught at the Brayton Fire Field in College Station, TX.
Number of Students: 12 minimum and 16 maximum
Instructor Staff: Four (4) Instructors, one (1) Technician and one skill evaluator
Who Should Attend: All emergency responders.
Note: All HMEP Hazardous Material Courses offered through TDEM are compliant with OSHA 29CFR 1910.120, EPA 40CFR Part 311, NFPA Standard 472 and qualify for TCOLE credit.

How this course is offered:
This class is offered through TDEM HazMat Preparedness Group as an onsite delivery at Brayton Fire Field only. These classes are an open enrollment with the approval of the class host and TDEM. If you are a County Judge; Emergency Management Coordinator; Fire or Police Chief; Public Works Trainer, Training Coordinator or Officer then register as a Training Coordinator. After you have registered as a Training Coordinator then contact the TDEM at 512-424-2844 for information on hosting this class.
NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Technician (Chapter 7, OSHA 1910.120)
In order to receive Pro Board Certification for this class you must provide to the class host two weeks before class start and to the instructor on the first day of class one of the following:
- A Pro-Board or IFSAC certificate specifying the required above prerequisite
- A transcript from an accredited agency that lists successful completion of the above prerequisite
- Printout of the DOD, Texas Commission, or similar look-up pages that includes the required prerequisite
