Course Description

H-503 - NFPA 1006 2013 Edition Confined Space Rescue Levels I and II Training (Pro-Board Certificates)

Upon the successful completion of this course, emergency responders will have the skills and knowledge required for certification under Chapter 7, "Confined Space Rescue”, as described in NFPA 1006, Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications (2013 Edition), including the areas of confined space rescue operations, utilizing appropriate equipment, methodologies, protocols, and patient and resource management techniques. Participants who successfully complete the course and pass the required written and skills test will receive a National Board of Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) certification.

Participants will have the ability to evaluate, manage, and perform a confined space rescue in accordance with  NFPA 1006.

This course is designed for all emergency response personnel involved with technical rescue incident response and is designed to meet the training requirements of NFPA 1006 Chapter 7 Job Performance Requirements (JPR).

Number of Students:
Ten (10) minimum /Fifthteen (15) maximum

Instructional Staff:
One (1) Instructor and one (1) skill evaluator(s) on the last day of class.

Host Facility:
The host facility will need to secure and provide a written test proctor (normally from a local university or community college) prior to the class. The host facility will also provide a testing/classroom location of suitable size for testing and lecture. The host facility will also provide outdoor training locations to include a drill tower for field lowering exercises and confined spaces to include openings of 18" to 36" with vertical and horizontal entry (if available). TEEX will provide a confined space training trailer if available when suitable training props can not be provide by host. PPE Requirements: All participants must bring the following items with them to class – hard hat, safety glasses, leather gloves, safety-toe footwear.

*Rural County Host:
If you are hosting a class in a rural county (population 150,000 or less) you may not be required to meet the “minimum number of students” for this class. Rural County Residents may be eligible for travel, lodging and/or per diem reimbursement to attend HMEP funded classes. A requester will need the support of your supervisor to receive funding. Contact the TDEM with questions at or 512-424-2844.
Note: To receive full benefits from these courses, it is recommended that it be taught at an approved fire training facility. All HMEP Hazardous Material Courses offered through TDEM are compliant with OSHA 29CFR 1910.120, EPA 40CFR Part 311, NFPA Standard 472 and qualify for TCOLE credit.
”Due to the nature of Hazardous Material training, you may be required to perform some physically strenuous activities for this class which may include wearing PPE. Therefore, we recommend all students have a current physical examination prior to class start date.”

How this course is offered:
This class is offered through TDEM HazMat Preparedness Group as an onsite delivery at a location designated by the requesting jurisdiction. These classes are an open enrollment with the approval of the class host and TDEM. If you are a County Judge; Emergency Management Coordinator; Fire or Police Chief; Public Works Trainer, Training Coordinator or Officer then you may request this class by clicking below.

Prerequisites & Other Information:
Participants must pass the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1006, Chapter 5, "Job Performance Requirements" portion of the written exam to receive Level I and II certification. Participants must pass Level I to receive certification for Level II. Written and skills testing for Confined Space Rescue Levels I & II will be conducted on day 4 & 5.

Students must be Public Sector Employees/Volunteers:

Students must be employed or used by a political subdivision (county, municipality, city, town, township, local public authority, school district, special districts, interstate district, council of governments (whether or not incorporated as a nonprofit corporation under State law), any other regional or interstate government entity, or any agency or instrumentality of a local government. Private sector, federal, non-profit/not for profit employees may not be eligible for these classes unless they also serve in a public sector/volunteer position. Volunteers must apply through their public sector departments. Texas residents only.
