Course Description

ENV-190 - HAZWOPER for Clean Up Operations

This course is designed for personnel engaged in hazardous substance investigation, cleanup, remediation, or other non-emergency response activities which expose or potentially expose workers to contamination and work site health hazards. After completing this course, participants will be more knowledgeable in:

  • hazardous waste operations,
  • team functions,
  • personnel health and safety procedures, and
  • operation of field monitoring equipment


This course is designed to meet Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) requirements of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.120 (e) for employees responsible for hazardous waste cleanup operations rather than emergency responders. Emergency Responders are encouraged to take HAZ005 which will focus on the purpose and limitations of safety equipment


  • Identify methods and procedures for recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazardous substances
  • Identify concepts, principles, and guidelines for proper protection of site personnel
  • Select, inspect and use of repiratory equiment
  • Discuss regulations, toxicity, and action levels to ensure health and safety of the workers
  • Discuss fundamentals needed to develolp organizational structure, standard operating procuedures, and site specific health and safety plan (HASP)
  • Choose and demonstrate samplying methods, preservation, and analytical procedures
  • Utilize site reconnaissance and analytical results to classify, segregate, and remidate hazards
  • Demonstrate the use, calibration, and liimitations of direct-reading air monitoring instruments, and select other test methodologies
  • Perform equipment and personnel decontamination procedures

  • Change of clothing
  • Appropriate field work attire for PPE activites


OSHA physical examination in accordance with 29 CFR §1910.120 and 29 CFR §1910.134
