This advance course is designed for the HazMat Technician to further their training at the specialist level. This course meets the NFPA 472, Chapter 14 competencies for the tank car specialty. The responder will be training to handle bulk container emergencies. After successful completion of this course, students will receive a Pro Board Certification for the NFPA 472 Hazardous Material Intermodal Specialist.
This course can only be taught at the Brayton Fire Field.

Two (2) Instructors, two (2) Technicians and one skill evaluator
Who should Attend:
Technician level personnel expected to respond to incidents and provide technical support, oversight for product removal and moving of damaged intermodals, and act as a liaison between outside resources and technicians.
*Rural County Host:
If you are hosting a class in a rural county (population 150,000 or less) you may not be required to meet the “minimum number of students” for this class. Rural County Residents may be eligible for travel, lodging and/or per diem reimbursement to attend HMEP funded classes. A requester will need the support of your supervisor to receive funding. To receive full benefits from these courses, it is recommended that it be taught at an approved fire training facility. All HMEP Hazardous Material Courses offered through TDEM are compliant with OSHA 29CFR 1910.120, EPA 40CFR Part 311, NFPA Standard 472 and qualify for TCOLE credit.

How this course is offered:
This class is offered through TDEM HazMat Preparedness Group as an onsite delivery at Brayton Fire Field only. These classes are an open enrollment with the approval of the class host and TDEM. If you are a County Judge; Emergency Management Coordinator; Fire or Police Chief; Public Works Trainer, Training Coordinator or Officer then register as a Training Coordinator.
NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Technician (Chapter 7, OSHA 1910.120)
In order to receive Pro Board Certification for this class you must provide to the class host two weeks before class start and to the instructor on the first day of class one of the following:
- A Pro-Board or IFSAC certificate specifying the required above prerequisite
- A transcript from an accredited agency that lists successful completion of the above prerequisite
- Printout of the DOD, Texas Commission, or similar look-up pages that includes the required prerequisite
