This Hazardous Materials Technician Course is a combination of H-100 HazMat Awareness and H-200 HazMat First Responder Operations and H-300 HazMat Emergency Response Technician Upgrade. In addition to Awareness and Operations course content this course includes regulatory overview, understanding basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior, implementation of emergency response plan, the use of field survey instruments to classify and identify unknown and know materials, selection and use of PPE, understanding of hazard and risk assessment techniques as well an understanding of termination procedures. You will perform control, containment, and/or confinement operations (offensive), implement decontamination procedures. This course includes intense hands on exercises.

Who should Attend:
Those individuals assigned to a HazMat Response Team and fire, rescue, EMS, law enforcement, Incident Commanders, and other local/state officials who might respond to a transportation hazardous material incident
*Rural County Host:
If you are hosting a class in a rural county (population 150,000 or less) you may not be required to meet the “minimum number of students” for this class. Rural County Residents may be eligible for travel, lodging and/or per diem reimbursement to attend HMEP funded classes. A requester will need the support of your supervisor to receive funding.
To receive full benefits from these courses, it is recommended that it be taught at an approved fire training facility. All HMEP Hazardous Material Courses offered through TDEM are compliant with OSHA 29CFR 1910.120, EPA 40CFR Part 311, NFPA Standard 472 and qualify for TCOLE credit.

This is a combination course (H-100 HAZMAT Awareness Level, H-200 HAZMAT First Responder Operations Level and H-300 Hazardous Materials Technician Upgrade) which provides training necessary to perform an offensive response to hazardous materials incidents. Course meets or exceeds OSHA, EPA and DOT requirements.

This class is offered through TDEM HazMat Preparedness Group as an onsite delivery at a location designated by the requesting jurisdiction. These classes are an open enrollment with the approval of the class host and TDEM. If you are a County Judge; Emergency Management Coordinator; Fire or Police Chief; Public Works Trainer, Training Coordinator or Officer then register as a Training Coordinator. Students must be Public Sector Employees/Volunteers:
Students must be employed or used by a political subdivision (county, municipality, city, town, township, local public authority, school district, special districts, interstate district, council of governments (whether or not incorporated as a nonprofit corporation under State law), any other regional or interstate government entity, or any agency or instrumentality of a local government. Private sector, federal, non-profit/not for profit employees may not eligible for these classes unless they also serve in a public sector/volunteer position. Volunteers must apply through their public sector departments. Texas residents only.
